Who we are

We are a non-profit organization founded in 1990, that promotes the conservation of Mexico´s ecosystems and wild species through outreach, environmental education, and the development of field conservation activities.

Ecosystem and Species Conservation Program
  • Mexican Wolf Recovery
  • Conservation of the Northern Jaguar in Sonora
  • Conservation of grasslands and associated species in San Pedro River Basin, Sonora

Achievements and awards

Achievements
  • Establishmente of two private reserves that add up to more than 54, 000 acres: 44,000 for the protection of the wilderness where the northern Jaguar population is locates, and 10,000 that protect the grasslands, the habitat of the beaver and other threatened species

  • Developmente of an institutional project for the recovery of the Mexican Wolf and the implementation of its reintroduccion to the Mexican wilderness.

  • 13 years of uninterrupted publication of Especies, the first and only Mexican conservation and biodiversity magazine

  • More than 60 reforested areas in the valley of Mexico, that comprise approximately 1,111 acres with more than half a million trees

  • More than 3,500 volunteers that participate in different institutional projects for environmental conservation and education


Prizes and awards
  • The Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat in Mexico, granted the Conservation of Nature Award 2006 to Naturalia for its history in the conservation of ecosystems and threatened species

  • Caracol de Plata, A.C. granted in 2001 two Caracol de Plata awards, Ibero-American Recognition to Social Benefit Message, in the “Environment” theme, category “Campaigns”, to Naturalia and its magazine Especies, for leading and spreading the campaign “We need new ways to preserve the species”

  • In 1993 the Secretariat of Agriculture and Water Resources granted to Naturalia, the “National Forest Merit and Wildlife Award”, for promoting the protection of animal species in danger of extinction
